A 5.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in Indonesia on Wednesday (August 13), according to the United States Geological Survey.

The earthquake was centered near Bitung at a depth of 73.7 kilometers (about 46 miles). The USGS said it received two reports of people having felt the earthquake at the time of publication.

The Bitung earthquake was reported hours after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in Indonesia on Tuesday (August 12), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Abepura at a depth of 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).

The Indonesia earthquakes were reported two days after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake was reported in Turkey on Sunday (August 10), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Bigadiç at a depth of 10 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).

The Russia earthquake was reported days after a 4.0-magnitude earthquake was reported in Alaska last Thursday (August 7), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Ninilchik at a depth of 40.3 kilometers (about 25 miles).

The Alaska earthquake was reported hours after a 3.5-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on August 6, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Ontario at a depth of 6.5 kilometers (about 4.0 miles).

The California earthquake was reported hours after a 2.7-magnitude earthquake was reported in New Jersey on August 5, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Hillsdale at a depth of 12.4 kilometers (about 7.7 miles).

The Hillsdale earthquake was reported three days after a 3.0-magnitude earthquake was reported in New Jersey on August 2, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered near Hasbrouck Heights at a depth of 10.0 kilometers (about 6.2 miles).

Tsunami waves were reported in the United States after the massive earthquake struck Russia's Far East. A 5.7-foot tsunami was reported in Kahului, Maui, while a 4.9-foot wave was reported in Hilo and a 4.0-foot wave was recorded in Hawleiwa, according to the United States Tsunami Warning System.

A 3.6-foot tsunami wave was reported in California's Crescent City, the highest wave ever recorded in the state, as well as a 3.0-foot wave in Arena Cove and a 1.2-foot wave along Humbold Bay.

"The first Tsunami waves are beginning to impact the coast with clear waves being recorded at the Crescent City and Humboldt Bay tide gauges. Waves will continue to build in through the night and will become more dangerous as we approach high tide. Stay away from beaches!" the National Weather Service's Eureka branch announced on its X account.

Tsunami warnings were issued for the entire state of Hawaii and parts of Russia following the earthquake. Hawaiian authorities downgraded the tsunami threat early Wednesday morning but still urged residents to take caution during their commutes.
