Commerce Secretary: U.S. Has Fallen Behind On Infrastructure

Biden Administration Pushes Infrastructure Bill Costing Over $2 Trillion

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo claims the U.S. has "fallen behind" and has neglected key investments in infrastructure for too long.

Raimondo promoted President Biden's American Jobs Plan during a White House briefing. She said massive investments will create good jobs and will help the nation's "global competitiveness."

Biden's more than two trillion dollar plan is getting a sour reaction from Republicans in Congress.

The President wants to raise the corporate tax rate to help pay for the ambitious plan.

Raimondo said she does not agree with warnings from some business leaders that raising the corporate tax rate to 28% will kill jobs. She insisted that the administration is open to compromise on the corporate tax rate and other parts of the proposal.

Meantime, Raimondo said results of the Census are still being compiled. She noted that things slowed down during the coronavirus pandemic and argued that it's important to get it right.
