George H. W. Bush's Heart Doctor Fatally Shot As He Biked To Work

The cardiologist of former president George H.W. Bush was shot and killed as he biked to work just after 9 a.m on Friday morning. Dr. Mark Hausknecht managed to flag down a passing ambulance, and the EMTs stayed with him until Houston firefighters arrived on the scene.

"We stopped, rendered aid to the best of our ability. We're limited when we have a patient loaded, we can't act as a normal ambulance at that point in time. We can pretty much just give first aid," one of the EMTs told ABC13

Police issued a press release saying the suspect followed Dr. Hausknecht for two blocks before he opened fire. Executive Assistant Police Chief Troy Finner told reporters they are unsure if the attack was random, or if Dr. Hauskenecht was targeted by the shooter. He said police are combing the area looking for the gunman.

President Bush issued a statement saying that “Mark was a fantastic cardiologist and a good man.”
