Minnesota Governor Appoints Replacement For Franken

Minnesota Democratic Governor Mark Dayton is naming Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith to replace Senator Al Franken. He recently announced his resignation after confronting numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.

During a news conference in St. Paul, Governor Dayton called Smith outstanding and said she will make Minnesotans proud.  Smith called it a difficult time and vowed to move forward with optimism.

Smith plans to run in a special Senate election to fill out Franken's term next year.
